Chick Care Guide
When taking your chicks home. give them access to warm (room temperature) drinking water as soon as possible. Gently dip their beaks in the water, so they know what it is and where it is. We recommend adding a shelled clove to drinking water. It is a natural approach to keeping chicks healthy & is a dewormer and preventative. Always add pebbles to the water dish to avoid drowning.
Paint Silkies - The pink skin phenomenon explained
Paint Silkies are a black chicken that carries one dominant white gene. A few spots of black will “leak through” the white as the dominant white gene does not always cover up all of the black. This will result in blacks that are split to paint. Split, when talking about chicken genetics means that the bird only carries one copy of a gene. Silkies are known for their completely black skin but paint Silkies sometimes hatch with pink or lighter coloured skin pigmentation.
